Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Georgia State Day 2023.

WHAT IS GEORGIA STATE DAY?

Georgia State is a national model of student success committed to removing barriers to achievement for students from all backgrounds. Georgia State Day is the university’s annual day of giving, when alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff and students can show their support for Georgia State's mission by supporting the areas of the university they’re most passionate about. All through Georgia State Day, there are opportunities, through gift challenges and matching gifts, for participants to double (or more!) the value of their donations. Beyond providing people with a special occasion to show their commitment to the university and its students, Georgia State Day generates important funds that fill in state funding gaps and create and sustain innovative programs that uplift students and remove barriers. Most Georgia State students come from disadvantaged backgrounds or historically marginalized communities and donor gifts power the programs that help them advance on their path to a college degree. On Georgia State Day you can stand with more than 2,200 other supporters and hundreds of volunteers to show Panthers you believe in The State Way and you believe in them.

WHAT ARE MATCHING AND CHALLENGE GIFTS?

Challenges and matching gifts have certain criteria or goals that, if met, unlock additional funds donated by individuals, groups of individuals or organizations for the given area of support. Helping drive competition and increase support for participating groups by setting giving benchmarks or goals during a designated time, challenges and matching gifts are greats way to make your support go even further. A complete list of challenges will be on the Challenges page, and active matches and challenges can be viewed on the main landing page and the participating group landing page for the benefiting area. Check back for updates throughout the event.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY GIFT?

Visit thestateday.gsu.edu between 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26 and 7:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

CAN I VIEW MY GIFT ON THE DONOR WALL?

Yes! The donor wall will be activated when Georgia State Day officially starts on Sept. 26 at 10 a.m.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE A GIFT BY MAIL OR BY PHONE?

Because Georgia State Day is a 1 day, 9 hour and 13 minute giving campaign, we strongly encourage you to make your gift online. This is the only way to ensure that your gift will qualify for matches and challenges taking place throughout the event. To give by phone, call 404-413-3484 from 10 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. EDT Tuesday, September 26 and from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. EDT Wednesday, September 27, but we cannot guarantee these gifts will count toward giving matches and challenges.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE IN GEORGIA STATE DAY?

Few institutions in America are on Georgia State’s upward trajectory. Georgia State has earned its reputation and a national leader in success initiatives, innovations, and commitment to teaching. Individual donors play an essential role powering the programs and initiatives that make a difference in Panther’s lives and create opportunities. A commitment to Georgia State is a commitment to an institution with a record of success and your support will help us continue to students, recruit and retain renowned faculty and enhance our position within the city of Atlanta.

WHAT AREAS CAN I SUPPORT?

Please review the participating priority areas on our main page and find the one you wish to support. Each participating college or unit has selected funds that will have a lasting impact on Georgia State and our students. While there are specific funds for specific purposes for each participating group, most groups also have a Fund for Excellence that provides unrestricted resources to help them make strategic investments in the areas of greatest need.

WHAT OTHER WAYS CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Share your stories and images throughout Georgia State Day using the hashtag #thestateday to help spread the word! Our website will aggregate posts, allowing visitors to thestateday.gsu.edu to view constant updates from the Georgia State community. You can also become a Champion, our volunteer Georgia State Day ambassadors, to help us generate awareness, create excitement and drive participation before and during the event. Spread the word within your personal networks using your preferred forms of communication and encourage others to join you in giving back to Georgia State. Help your favorite areas earn matches and challenges throughout the day to maximize the power of donations.

Please note, matching gifts received will benefit the fund of your choosing, but they, unfortunately, cannot be counted in our Georgia State Day totals.

Champions are our digital leaders, sharing messages and creating excitement about Georgia State Day before and during the campaign. With an investment of a few hours, Champions help spread awareness and encourage participation by asking their network via their preferred forms of communication (e.g., email, text message, phone, and social media) to participate in Georgia State Day. If you are interested in becoming a Champion, you can register online, or contact giving@gsu.edu.
