An updated Master of Taxation program with fully online curriculum starting this fall incorporates more emerging technology than ever before. We are proud that 95% of our Masters of Taxation alumni are placed in jobs at Big Four and other respected accounting firms.

MTax Highlights:

  • Ranked #1 in Southeast and #12 in U.S. by Tax Talent
  • Fully online evening curriculum
  • Will satisfy the 30 credit hours of upper level accounting coursework required for Georgia CPA requirements
  • Only three prerequisite requirements: Principles of Accounting I & II, and an Introduction to Federal Income Tax course

The GSU School of Accountancy (SOA) continues to innovate in its accounting programs, courses, and activities.  For example, the SOA has recently:

  • Integrated the latest technology and data analytics into every BBA Accounting major course and many MPA and MTx courses.
  • Created a new capstone course in the BBA Accounting major, ACCT 4750 Technology and Values in the Accounting Profession, to build on the data analytic foundation provided by ACCT 4310 Accounting Information Systems. ACCT 4750 features the effects of emerging information technologies such as blockchain, machine learning, and artificial intelligence on the accounting profession. Equally important, ACCT 4750 supports the professional norms of the accounting profession by introducing recent research incorporating such norms into the economic theory of the firm.
  • Incorporated three electives into the flex MPA program to enable students to take more data analytics and other specialty courses that support their career objectives.
  • Developed a data analytic case for TX 8030 Tax Research in which students analyzed worker agreements and compensation data with database querying to identify business practices with the potential for IRS reclassification of independent contractor workers as employees. As one of the first data analytic cases developed in tax, the case has been used at other universities, including the University of Waterloo, Auburn University, and Louisiana State University.
  • Staged data analytic projects on a password-protected website to make them visible to SOA faculty members, enabling them to rely on upstream learning experiences as they develop new data analytic projects for students.
  • Created a new Accounting Club to increase the opportunities for students to experience the breadth and diversity of career opportunities in accounting by coordinating the activities of student accounting organizations. As a vehicle for developing professional skills and offering professional development opportunities such as CPA review courses to students, the club is open to all students that have completed Principles of Accounting I and II (Acct 2101 and Acct 2102).
  • Achieved distinguished status by the Beta Alpha Psi chapter in 2018 and 2019.
  • Achieved the Comprehensive Level in the Institue of Internal Auditors (IIA) Global's Internal Audit Education Partnership (IAEP).
