Honors College

OUR HONORS COMMUNITY

The Honors College offers talented and motivated undergraduate students the experience of a highly selective small college combined with the breadth of programs and opportunities of a large public research university in the heart of Atlanta. This is achieved through the Honors College Fund, which supports students in the Honors College with advancing their academic, professional, and research goals.

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Presidential Scholarship is Georgia State’s and the Honor’s College largest and most competitive scholarship.  This award works to recruit the best and brightest students to Georgia State and provides students with the cost of tuition, fees, housing, a living stipend, and a one-time study abroad stipend for eight semesters.  Reducing the financial burden on our scholars allows them to elevate to new heights and accomplish goals they might not have considered otherwise.

Our scholars have gone on to be named Marshall Scholars; receive Goldwater Scholarships; get selected as Beckman Scholars; intern through the Honors College London Internship Program; pursue graduate/medical school; begin law school early through the Honors College Accelerated Bachelor’s/J.D. Program; intern at the State Capitol; start service organizations; found start-ups; perform independent research; study abroad in Vietnam, Italy, Israel, China; and more.

Your gift will allow the program to expand and grow by:

  1. Growing the number of scholars in our program,\
  2. Providing the cost of a meal plan so that the award can be a full-ride scholarship,
  3. Increasing the study abroad stipend so scholars can pursue more rigorous and impactful study abroad and exchange programs, and
  4. Providing more professional development opportunities for them as Panthers.

The above goals will allow the Presidential Scholarship to compete with premier scholarship programs at other universities so we can secure the best high-achieving students.

GLOBAL HONORS EXPERIENCE

In the past, premed students have studied the philosophy and foundations of medicine in Greece while attending patients alongside Greek physicians, as well as traveled through Paris while studying the French Revolution through the lens of British writers. With many study abroad programs suspended due to the Coronavirus, many students have delayed their study abroad plans. We fully anticipate having programs resume next year and, with that, an unprecedented increase in need-based study abroad scholarships. Your gift will provide assistance to many of these students.

EMERITI ASSOCIATION ‘JUST-IN-TIME’ FUND

The Emeriti Association and Honors College have partnered to provide exceptional students from all colleges with the opportunity to further their education and make them more competitive for national awards and scholarships. The purpose of the fund is to enable deserving students to take advantage of professional opportunities such as:

  • Presenting research at conferences
  • Unique internships
  • Study abroad experiences

YOUNG ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Young Alumni Club is an organization that seeks to connect Honors College alums following graduation. This scholarship was created to award students who exemplify core values of Honors College Young Alumni, particularly service orientation.
