The Department of Nutrition teaches science that integrates food science, physiology, biology, social behavior, culture and genetics, to help understand how the diverse components of food impact health and performance. The department offers a bachelor of science in nutrition, a master of science in health sciences with a concentration in nutrition, and a doctorate of philosophy in chemistry with a concentration in nutritional sciences (offered jointly with the College of Arts and Sciences). The program prepares students for careers in dietetics and produces nutrition researchers. Students research the role of functional foods, bioactive compounds and other dietary interventions in preventing and improving chronic diseases.
