Library Future Fund

The University Library seeks to be a national model of the innovative research library, providing engaging physical and virtual spaces in support of students’ needs for technology, connection and creativity. Your gift to the Library Future Fund this Georgia State Day helps the University Library continue the physical transformation of the University Library.

Over the summer, the University Library opened the greenway, a striking corridor of outdoor space connecting the Student Center and Collins Street to Peachtree Center Avenue. The space features lawns, benches, shade trees, bicycle parking and a natural respite at the heart of our urban campus. The new Library North entrance, accessible from the greenway, is enclosed by a dramatic glass façade. Inside, students will find a modern study space, full of natural light and comfortable seating for 80. Atop the new entrance is a rooftop terrace with terrific views of the downtown skyline and room for dozens of students to study outdoors in the fresh air.

The Board of Regents has approved the University Library’s latest move to turn inefficient space into something valuable to students. Breaking ground next year, the University Library will convert the C Lot parking area under Library North into a 19,000 square foot “study commons."

This space will be adjacent to the Library North entrance and will bring over 200 additional seats to the library. Plans include a spacious quiet study area, flexible collaboration spaces and several group study rooms. It will have a wellness room for new mothers, and it will double the number of gender-neutral, single-occupant restrooms on campus. The space’s secure entrance, separate from the rest of the sprawling downtown library, will allow for extended hours.

The conversion of this space from a parking lot into a coffee house-like study space is another example of the University Library’s commitment to change centered on student needs and requests. Gifts to the Library Future Fund make it possible. Please consider supporting this fund with your #TheStateDay gift and contact Director of Development, Elyse Zhao, at ezhao@gsu.edu to learn more about naming opportunities associated with the study commons.
